Do you have a small room in your home that needs a little ventilation? Maybe you have a fairly small laundry room that heats up when the dryer is running but you still stay in there to fold the load that just came out as that’s where the table is. Maybe you have a spot in the kitchen where you stand most of the time working away getting dinner cooked and washing up the remnants but it just gets so stagnate and warm as there simply not enough air flow. Well, here’s a great little laundry room or kitchen ceiling fan that’ll move that air and keep you more comfortable while tending to all those chores around the house, the Casablanca Wailea.

The Casablanca Wailea fan is kind of a spin-off of the Lanai and Capistrano, two very popular fans manufactured by the Casablanca Fan Company. You do need to keep in mind with this fan, it truly is for smaller rooms or small spaces. You will not be happy with this fan in a large room, but very satisfied if installing it in rooms or areas that you need to be cooled down and not blown away. It’s also a perfect little fan for those larger walk-in closets, you know the ones that only get air from other rooms as there’s no AC vent actually in the closet. It’s also great for patio’s and porches (that are covered) as it’s an indoor/outdoor ceiling fan that’s been rated “UL Damp”.

Let’s talk a little bit about the style and finishes of the Wailea fan. This ceiling fan comes in very distinctive finishes ranging from snow white to antique brass to rustic iron to a very attractive brushed nickel that you see in the photo above. Plus, it’s versatile enough to fit basically any décor you may have in that the blades can be changed to a finish that suits the situation perfectly. Some blade finishes you could expect range from white to black, medium to bleached oak, or even a rustic counterpart.

A little more about this particular model, the ceiling fan comes with 6 blades. Yes they are small in length and only measure out about 31.25 inches, but they are paired with a 25 degree pitch which can really circulate some air in a small room. Add to that it’s overall sleek design, affordability, and UL damp listing, this fan won’t break the budget when matching it up to either the patio or bathroom. Just make sure you have enough space for the fan to function properly. You’ll need a minimum ceiling height of 96” to maintain safety and local building codes, but be sure to check those in your particular area.

Casablanca ceiling fans have remained at the forefront of quality for many years and you are sure to get that with this little number. The fan even keeps up with their standard lifetime warranty that is offered on other models for the motor. Unique and stylish, the Casablanca Wailea ceiling fan could be the perfect match for that small area in your home.

Westinghouse, once a household name in ceiling fans, is back, with the same quality it was known for throughout the “golden age” of ceiling fans in the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. But, the company just hasn't dusted off the old models. The Black Comet fan is a contemporary sleek design in matte black finish that will fit in any modern decor, in living rooms, great rooms, and large bedrooms.

The Westinghouse Black Comet ceiling fan is sized for a large room, with a 52-inch diameter, 5-blade fan at a very competitive price for the many features. The Black Comet has a matte black finish on the body and a marble-look black finish on the blades. The fan comes with an opal glass dome light with two 40-watt incandescent lamps. It has a reversible three-speed motor.

The kit includes a 4-inch down rod, but can be installed as a flush mount for lower ceilings. Optional down rods in graduated sizes are available for higher or angled ceilings, to install the fan at a 7-foot height above the floor with ceilings up to 16 feet.

The Westinghouse Black Comet fan sells at discount retailers and internet stores for about $100, which is a considerable savings over competitive models. But, this price does not include a remote control, sold separately for $40 to $60. If you don't need a remote, the fan itself is a good bargain, and still a good bargain with the remote added.

An installation instruction manual is included in the kit, but was not available on the Internet for review. But, as with all ceiling fan installations, do-it-yourself installers should have a helper and be familiar with electrical wiring and be able to ensure adequate structural support for the fan. Professional installation is recommended. If you add the optional remote control, the receiver electronics should be installed in the fan housing before installing the fan itself.

The Black Comet ceiling fan, built on decades of experience, is a stable platform, even though lighter than comparable models. The overall weight is less than 25 pounds. The motor body is cold-rolled steel, and the fan blades are wood. The fan includes a 25-year limited warranty, with a 20-year motor warranty. The sealed ball-bearing motor needs no lubrication.

The Westinghouse Black Comet ceiling fan can be a good bargain in a lighted large-room fan if you don't need a remote control or are willing to do a bit more assembly work to add one. The remote control could be added later, but requires removing the fan from its mounting and reinstalling.

Westinghouse is unique in offering a wide range of optional down rod sizes, so that you can place the fan at an optimum height regardless of the ceiling height. Westinghouse, in business since the late 19th century, is a respected name in electrical appliances and stands behind their products. Though the company is new to the 21st century ceiling fan scene, they have a long and successful history as one of the pioneers in quality ceiling fans.

You can buy the Westinghouse 7801665 Comet 52 Inch Ceiling Fan, Matte Black Finish at a fairly good price at Amazon. The last time I checked they were almost half-off.

If you are looking to add some additional lighting or maybe a cool, new decorative touch to a particular room, or maybe even attempt to help a room maintain a cooler temperature, you're probably looking for a new ceiling fan. Ceiling fans are excellent home appliances to add to any room in any home. The problem comes in picking the right ceiling fan (or fans) for your home. Hopefully, this quick little ceiling fan buying guide will help you not only understand how and why a ceiling fan works on those hot summer days and cold winter nights, but will also walk you along some of the more important features and styles available that may just suit your taste a little better.

Why do I need a ceiling fan?

Everyone has there own reasons for needing a ceiling fan so I'd hope you would already have one by this point or else why would you even be here? But, the main reason that anyone needs a ceiling fan is to improve the air circulation throughout there home which, in turn, helps with the ventilation aspect as well. Not having good air circulation in your home can prove to be costly as it makes your heating/cooling systems work that much harder, using more energy, and costing you more money in the long run. Having ceiling fans throughout your house helps improve the effectiveness of these systems providing for better air circulation during both the summer and winter months.

How do they work and can ceiling fans lower my utility bill??

A ceiling fan can work to either cool your home when it's hot outside or to warm it up a bit when it's chillly. First, let's take it from a "cooling" perspective since that ones a bit easier to explain. To cool your home all you have to do is simply turn it on when you are running your air conditioner. The fan will spin and push the air down to you creating a "cooler" sensation as the cold air is moving closer to you. Because it's circulating the cold air it will make it feel like a nice cool breeze is blowing through your home. People will often times be able to turn their thermostats up a little more using a ceiling fan to circulate the air more thoroughly throughout their home and even save a few dollars on their electric bill

Now, to the harder one that takes into account a little physics and science. You can use your ceiling fan when it's cold outside to actually help heat your home. Most ceiling fans have a switch on them that when flipped one way, the fan spins clockwise and when turned the other the fan will spin counter-clockwise. The science of it is that warm air is less dense than cold air. The physics portion comes into play in that one substance that is less dense than the other will "float" above the more dense one. Thus, warm air rises above the cold air. With the fan switch turned to where the air will be pulled instead of pushed, will cause the warm air to bounce off the ceiling and be forced down the outside of the walls back down to ground level. There, it will mix with the colder air and make it feel warmer around you. See, you can still use your ceiling fan in the winter when it's blistering cold outside and snow's all over the ground.

What kind of ceiling fans are available?

When you start looking at ceiling fans, you need to keep in mind that you are not stuck with just one certain model, actually there are three different types you could choose from. These are as follows: the traditional hanging, directional, or rotational ceiling fan. Let's get into these a little bit further.

Traditional Propeller Ceiling Fans
These are exactly what most people picture as a ceiling fan and think that's all there is on the market. Not entirely true but we'll get into that in just a bit. These fans hang directly down from your ceiling and the blades are parallel to the floor. Now there are all kinds of these out there to be gobbled up. Some are shiny, some have an antique finish, some have 3 or 4 blades, others have 5 or 6. They've even started making some very retro, post-modern models that are quite exquisite even down to some rather neat rustic models and sleek aero-craft designs. Some hang high and very close to the ceiling to give you much more headroom while others can hang still comfortably from very tall, arched ceilings. Bottom line, the sky's the limit with this style of ceiling fan as there are just a multitude of fans to choose from. Here's just some of the bigger known manufacturers and some of the brands that I like. Casablanca, Westinghouse, Hunter, Emerson, & Monte Carlo to name a few.

Directional Ceiling Fans
These can get quite fun and yet still very functional and stylish. Directional ceiling fans are kind of a mix of those old standard fans but are mounted from the ceiling just like a traditional ceiling fan. The good part about these fans are that you can actually control the direction of the breeze to better ventilate certain portions or corners of the room. I've actually seen a master bedroom setup before with two of the directional fans near the front corners of the room pointing back towards the center of the room at the front of the bed. This type of setup can definitely get some air flowing towards anywhere you want it.

These are awesome smaller ceiling fans when you need to add some extra breeze to a room where maybe no additional lighting is needed as most all of these do not come with light fixtures. Matthews is a great brand for these types of fans.

Rotational Ceiling Fans
Rotational ceiling fans, simply put, are the best of both worlds. You get both the power and speed of directional ceiling fans with the ease and comfort of a traditional one. Rotational ceiling fans typically come with 2 sets of propellers that work independently and are adjustable.

This is really cool in that each set of propellers have their own motors. Thus really giving you two complete fans instead of one. The fans are connected and then attached to a traditional support rod that actually rotates. So as the saying goes, when the propellers turn, the rod turns allowing it to move like a traditional ceiling fan, just slower. What's really cool is that you can actually adjust the individual fans to either increase or decrease the angle of air flow to particular areas of the room.

Because of their ability to move air better and more effectively than a traditional fan, people have claimed that they are seeing an increased saving on their heating and cooling costs. Although I don't really know if that is true or not, it is what some are saying. One of the big downfalls of this ceiling fan model is that they are definitely more expensive than either of the other 2 models.

What kind of features are available for my ceiling fan?

Another thing to consider when looking for a new ceiling fan is what kind of features are available. Let's break this down a little further.

Feature 1: Lighting
Most all ceiling fans either come with lights or have a light kit that can be purchased and mounted to the fan. The only kind that really doesn't are directional ceiling fans. You can simply choose what kind and how many lights are on the unit. The single light units tend to use bigger lights that can light an entire room while the multi-light units offer a bit more form, functionality and class and can be used to direct light to certain area's of a room much more like a spotlight.

The more brand name ceiling fan manufacturers also offer a more contemporary option in lighting in that most of their ceiling fans are made to be able to match and coordinate with all the other light fixtures in your home. A good example of this type of lighting comes from the makers of Casablanca fans.

Feature 2: Controls
Controls are an important feature on any ceiling fan. Most standard models come with pull chains that can work (separately) both the speed of the fan and act as an on/off switch for the lights. Plus, most of these can be switched out to use a more standard wall mount fixture that allows you to control both the speed of the fan and set the light on a push button on/off dimmer switch. These make the lighting controls of the fans a bit more functional as you can dim the lights when you get ready to sit down and watch some TV or a movie.

A newer trend in the industry are remote controls. Now these can really spoil a guy, not only do you have a remote for the TV, but also one for the fan. Just imagine laying down in the bed and being able to grab the remote, turn the fan on, turn on the lights, and never get out of bed. Now that's comfort. Also, some models will allow for the remote to actually attach to a wall mount so it can be easily stored and operated from a wall like switch and removed when you just want to take it to the couch and relax.

Feature 3: Decorative
Baseball bats and fancy blades, attractive lighting and decorative base plates. These days, ceiling fans are becoming more and more specialized and the ability to either purchase a certain decorative style or upgrade certain pieces of it are becoming more and more attractive.

You can find these decorative ceiling fans in many different styles like Victorian or Contemporary, Antique or metal finishes, sports or bamboo. You're sure to find one to match any situation or decorative theme for most any room.

One of the cooler decorative features that I think have come out on the market lately are these canvas backed fan blades. But I'm a big sailing fanatic and to have a ceiling fan with blades that resemble sails from a sail boat are top notch in my book.

These days, everybody is looking for the best deal they can find no matter what it is they may be looking for, the same holds true for those looking to buy ceiling fans. And for good reason. The economy is in the tanker, people are loosing jobs right and left, money is tighter than ever before and it just seems that more and more people are living on credit that just keeps dwindling. But, no matter how tight your budget may actually be, follow these simple little tips to get the best ceiling fan for the right occasion at a standard you can live with and a price you can afford.

No matter the room, the addition of a ceiling fan is going to make the room even better. With the absolute wide range of styles available today, they are serving more of a dual purpose. The first, stating the obvious of course, is to circulate air through your home. The second, because of the sheer beauty of the newer models coming out these days, they can really complement the overall decor in just about any room you might be looking to add one. It's enough to make any homeowners head spin. You want to get the right one, with the features you desire, but don't want to be raked over the coals when purchasing it only to stumble on a better deal online or in another store a little while later.

Don't get buyer's remorse thinking you've been robbed or overwhelmed simply because of all the choices you have to contend with when you go out buying one for your home. Here's a few little tips to help you on your way to buying a ceiling fan that's right for you and your home.

My 6 Best Tips For Buying Ceiling Fans:

Tip #1 - Before heading out to actually purchase a ceiling fan, take a few minutes at home or online and really get a handle on what features you want out of your fan by knowing what room you are going to be installing it in. Is it going in a room or area where it's replacing the light fixture? Then you'll need to look only at ceiling fans with lights. Are you going to want to have a more spotlight feature than one big drop light to accent all corners of a room? Start with the lighting options and then move on from there. Two important things to note here. First, are you going to want to be able to operate the lights separate from the fan? And second, is the fan going in a room that could benefit from being able to have the lights dimmed? What you'll find is that if you take the time with the lighting options and get the one that has what you are looking for, you'll be much more satisfied than just grabbing one with lights.

Tip #2 - Ceiling fan speed. How much control do you really need? Are you a speed freak that needs to wind the gears of the ceiling fan through all 5 speeds as you would your old manual 5-speed transmission from your first car? Will 3 speeds be sufficient to adequately keep everyone comfortable and still push the amount of air through the room like you are expecting? Will spending the extra money for a ceiling fan that has 3 speeds in reverse be something that's useful? Whatever it is, make sure that at top speed it's pushing the amount of air to make you feel it.

Tip #3 - Decor matching. By being able to narrow down the selection of ceiling fans to a specific style, you'll be able to quickly identify what will look good and complement your room versus something that's going to stick out like a sore thumb or just overly gaudy. Take for instance a bedroom. A kids bedroom to be more specific. Are you going to want to put one in there that looks like it belongs in a formal living area with all the Barney's and Barbie's all over the place? I wouldn't think so. You'd need one that's probably a little more functional and that would match. Like maybe an airplane motif for a boy or a pretty pink or one that has colorful blades for a girl.

Tip #4 - Get the right size. I can't stress this little tip for buying a ceiling fan enough. It's one thing to go into a room and look up and see a fan the size of a 747 propeller staring you down and feel a little unsteady about standing underneath it. Much less laying on the bed looking up at it. And conversely, if you've got a large room, you're gonna need a bigger fan, a small one will simply just not have the same effect either visually or functionally in adequately circulating the air through the room effectively.

Quality Ceiling Fans

Tip #5 - Quality counts! If you spend $30 on a good looking ceiling fan, chances are you're getting what you paid for. Something that'll look good for just a little while. How much quality can you really expect for $30 and how long would you really expect it to last for the price you paid? Chances are a $30 fan is going to wear out a lot quicker than a higher quality fan that might set you back $100. If you are just starting, take a few weeks/months and save up for it and get a good quality fan. You'll be glad you did in the long run.

Tip #6 - Warranty matters! This one actually goes hand in hand with purchasing a quality fan. The typical rule of thumb with any quality product is the better the warranty the better the quality. A company that produces a high quality ceiling fan will have no problem standing behind it with a great warranty. Cheap ceiling fans normally have a less than desirable warranty and will leave you in the boat of replacing the fans more often than a quality one.

One last one for you as a special little hidden "bonus", is for all of you impulse shoppers. There always seems to be one in every family. I'm not much the impulse buyer but my wife tends to "need" things the minute she see's them. You know the kind, "oh, wouldn't that just be adorable if we got this to go in the living room". Yeah, not for me. If you happen to be an impulse buyer, do yourself a favor, let somebody else hold all your cash and credit cards and then take some time and do a lot of perusing online BEFORE you head out. This will give you a chance to really look at all the different ceiling fans available, the various styles and sizes, colors and dimensions, speeds and quality so you know exactly what it is you're after before that first salesman encounter.

That's it, if you keep these simple little things in mind (features, style, size and quality) you can really take the confusion out of buying a ceiling fan.

Expect a difference when you use Casablanca ceiling fans. This manufacturer out of Pomona California produces some excellent quality as well as prime performance in almost all their models. Not only that, they are extremely authentic looking and original. These ceiling fans can be enhanced to really make a room shine.

The Casablanca Fan Company really prides themselves on their commitment to quality. Just take a look at some of their ceiling fans and you'll see what I mean. From the ever-present attention to detail in all their designs and the ability to accessorize pretty much every fan they produce, these are outstanding quality ceiling fans. There's really no need to look any further than a Casablanca ceiling fans if you are looking for that piece of elegance to add value to a room. In fact, for most astute shoppers these fans have been the preferred brand for some time due to their excellent designs and outstanding values.

Not only that, the company touts that their fans can provide you with a fairly large energy efficiency and savings year round according to their website. They proclaim that the Casablanca ceiling fans can reduce your AC bills by almost 40%. Now in the summer time and hotter months, your air conditioning plays a fairly major role in your overall electric bills so I'd be curious to see how that goes but 40% is a pretty big claim to attempt to backup. But even if it got close to that number you would probably be jumping for joy. You get the other part in the winter when they claim it can cut your heating costs by up to 10%. I don't know exactly how much it would cut your personal bills but all ceiling fans basically work the same way (that is if they are reversible) and if you use them right with the appropriate thermostat settings you're gonna see a savings. I think part of their claim is due to the way they actually size and pitch the blades on these types of ceiling fans according to their motor as that is what's gonna give you the best push and pull of airflow and ability to circulate it around the room.

While we are on the subject, let's talk about the Casablanca ceiling fan motors for a bit. Another quite heralded claim from Casablanca is that they provide not only the largest but also the most powerful motor in the industry today. Actually they have two types of motors that comes in various sizes for their ceiling fans: Casablanca XLP-2000™ Series and the Casablanca Direct Drive™ Motor. Let's start with the XLP-2000™, proclaimed to be the largest and most powerful of any competing ceiling fan motor, they will run at a cooler operating temperature than most as they are bigger and better insulated than comparable models. They've been given a great rating from the Underwriters Laboratories as a UL Class A. And they use a patented Silent-Flex™ flywheel that absorbs shock and reduces noise. The Direct Drive™ sports some premium quality copper and steel in it's construction with the same tout of being cooler quieter and cooler. Add to that the dynamically balanced shaft and rotor and this fan virtually eliminates any wobble or shake.

Casablanca has even made it easier for those DIY types to install their fans. With their trademarked Hang-Tru Canopy, you will be able to easily install Casablanca fans on almost any ceiling surface. This would even include sloped ceilings as long as the slope doesn't go over 32 degrees. One of the major facets of this system that they have developed is that you can hang the ceiling fan and then use both hands to actually connect all the wires. Really a plus as it virtually makes it a one-person job to get the ceiling fan installed, no longer needing that second set of hands to hold the fan while you do the wiring.

Plus, once you get that fan hung, the innovations don't stop there. Don't want those ceiling fan pulls hanging down taking away from the ambiance your trying to set? No worries, as most ceiling fan models come equiped to handle a remote control. This is where they've really stepped it up in my opinion. With there trademarked ADVAN•TOUCH™ and INTELI•TOUCH™ ceiling fan remote systems, they've really pushed the envelope. One is a handheld and the other is a wall mount but what they've got is something extraordinary. You see, they've created these 2 features that are included on these systems that they call Home-Safe™ and Safe-Exit™.

The Home-Safe™ feature is designed to work in conjunction with a home security system. Although it doesn't really work hand in hand with it, what it does is make it appear as if someone is home turning on and off the lights at different intervals throughout the day or evening. By being able to set it so that the lights on your ceiling fan turn on and stay on for a while and then turn off in kind of an irregular pattern, it makes it appear as if someone is actually home. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

The Safe-Exit™ is also another modern innovation that they've put into these ceiling fan systems. What this feature does is actually gives you about 20 seconds of dimming lights until the lighting is completely off. So no more stepping over toys or hitting your shins on the coffee tables trying to make it to the door or out of a room or into bed once you turn the system off. It gradually dims the light leaving ample time to either get into bed our out the front door without having to do it in complete darkness.

In addition to this, the Advan-Touch by Casablanca is actually their newest remote system. This one can either be mounted on the wall or used as a hand-held device. It comes with a fairly large LCD screen onboard and quite a lot of controls for both lighting and fan operation. One good thing about this remote is that you can use one remote to control several fans or you could use 2 remotes to controll the same fan. You have the ability to select from 6 different fan speeds either forward or reverse, full control of the lights and even has some efficient programmable features.

The Inteli-Touch is a modern marvel in its own right. Not only does it have the Home-Safe and Safe-Exit features, it also includes what's called Fan Minder and Light Minder. The Fan Minder feature is all about comfort. Know how when you go to bed your comfortable but after a few hours you wind up cold as the fans still blowing at the same speed. Well, with Fan Minder it will actually adjust the speed of the fan during the night as your laying there counting zz's, keeping you comfortable all night. The Light Minder feature is for all you people out there trying to save a buck or two by trying to save energy. No more having to yell "turn those lights off if your not in that room", the Light Minder will actually turn the lights off after two hours automatically. These are just some of the reasons why when someone gets a Casablanca Fan they say they'll never have anything else.

Let's face it, Casablanca ceiling fans are a thing of beauty and some of this is due to both the design, construction and performance of the fans themeselves, but some of that goes to their blades as well. The ceiling fan blades on Casablanca fans are top-notch. They've cross laminated six layers of wood to give them strength and help in resisting warping. But they've also gone one step farther in coating this with 2 more layers on the outside with furniture grade wood. Talk about tough! Most competitive blades are simply pressed fiberboard and only have a picture overlay on them to give them the wood look, but not Casablanca blades. Plus they are pitched for performance at a minimum of 13 degrees to really circulate that air-flow.

If you are on the fence about buying a Casablanca ceiling fan, you can rest assured that the company stands behind their fans! This isn't some fly-by-night company as they've been in the business for upwards of thirty plus years now. And when you get one of their fans, they do stamp it with their gaurantee. What you get is a lifetime gaurantee on their motors and a limited lifetime on the body and blades.

Casablanca ceiling fans can be found to fit a wide variety of styles and tastes and they basically classify the fans in specific categories. These categories range for period specific to contemporary, transitional to traditional and contemporary to even Casablanca outdoor ceiling fans. You'll find some of the more popular fans like the three-blade Casablanca Marrakesh fan and the New Orleans Centennial fan in their Period/Decor specific category. While the Casablanca Astro fan and the Casablanca Stealth ceiling fan fall more inline with their contemporary fans. Still, if you are looking for more of a transitional, the Casablanca Brescia fan might foot the bill. They truly do have so many choices and such unique designs, you are sure to find one thats a perfect fit.

Timeless beauties and built for performance, these fans are made with some of the highest quality materials. Casablanca fans are some of the most long lasting and durable fans on the market today. They are a bit more expensive than others, but sometimes you have to pay a little bit more for quality. You can see alot more images of their ceiling fans here.

So you like to hangout and have some friends or maybe family over for an evening of entertainment outside. Maybe you're gonna have a pool party or just simply have a barbeque to celebrate some sort of "special" occasion. Too bad everyone's huddled up on the patio or just gone inside to get in the shade to beat the heat of the situation. Sure would be nice if you had some outdoor ceiling fans up under your patio or deck ceiling so everyone could be relaxing in the shade because it's just so darn hot outside. Luckily for you, outdoor fans can be readily purchased these days to solve your little dilemma.

What's so different between outdoor ceiling fans versus an indoor one? Well, nothing really aesthetically speaking as you can get just as beautiful or unique ceiling fan for outdoors as you can for indoors. They actually work in exactly the same manner so no real difference there. Outdoor fans will provide the same cooling gentle breeze that an indoor fan would, except you'd be outside instead of inside. The only real difference is in the material and construction of the outdoor ceiling fans.

Outdoor Ceiling Fan

If you are going to use a ceiling fan outside, say in a gazebo or underneath a covered deck or porch, make sure that you get an outdoor ceiling fan and not an indoor model. Indoor models will not hold up to the elements such as rain, sleet, snow or heat like outdoor ceiling fans can. I will warn you though, just because a ceiling fan is rated for outdoors, they do still come in two very specific classifications ("wet" or "damp") and you need to be realistic and honest with yourself when making your choice.

An outdoor ceiling fan with a rating of "wet" are approved for general use areas that would be unprotected from mother nature. In other words, you plan on putting them in an uncovered area thats gonna get some rain or snow or whatever else might come in contact with the fain itself. These fans are designed to withstand some of the most inclement weather that you could think of and still work. Torrential rains and driving downpours, rain for days on end, freezing cold or those blistery hot summer days. They can hold-up as they are manufactured to be water-resistant and the housing and motor will withstand these forces of nature.

Hampton Bay Outdoor Ceiling Fan

You need to use a little reservation when thinking about using a "damp" rated outdoor ceiling fan. These ceiling fans are designed to use outdoors but to not come in direct contact with the elements when they occur. That is, you need to use these in covered places outside only. Some place where they will not feel the direct force of the rain or snow.

Most major ceiling fan manufacturer's will carry outdoor models. From Hampton Bay to Harbor Breeze, Hunter to Litex, even Casablanca and Monte Carlo, they all take a piece of this market. So if you're looking for the best outdoor ceiling fan for you're place, you can rest assured that all manufacturer's make them and you don't have to settle for one of those off-the-wall makers. You can rely on some of the more prominent ones as they'll have them as well. Heck, some outdoor ceiling fans even come with lights to brighten up those places when the sun fades and evening sets.

Outdoor ceiling fans can really enhance your experience outside this summer when it starts to heat up. You'll be able to stay cooler longer outside and you and your guests will be able to really enjoy those "special" occasions without burning up. Not only that, you could enhance your space and home as today they come in very decorative styles and models that you'd be sure to find one to compliment most any setting you're trying to cool.

The Hampton Bay Hawkins ceiling fan is a 44-inch fan looks like it was designed specifically to work in those flat low-ceiling bedrooms. This is definitely one of those indoor ceiling fans that uses a newer developed twist-and-lock type installation components. That is, you're not fiddling with those downrods on this one trying to get the right sized downrod so it hangs comfortably at the distance from the ceiling that you prefer. In fact, this ones made for those low ceilings so that it can hug it up close and tight. Perfect fit for those rooms that have 8-foot ceilings, plus the price is right at only around $70.

Hampton Bay 44 Inch Hawkins Ceiling Fan

Speaking of the twist-and-lock feature, what you'll find is that it actually gives the fan a more appealing look than what you'll typically find on traditional hugger type fans. Plus without having to mess with those downrods you should find the installation pretty much a breeze on this one, just don't loose your cool running the pull chains if you are going to install this yourself. It can get a little tricky and you need to make sure the right chains go thru the right holes, but it's not that hard and you can do it. I have done some searching around do see that there has been problems with the pull chains not working. But you can fix that as well if it doesn't work for you simply by removing 3 or 4 of the beads used in the speed pull chain of the Hampton Bay Hawkins ceiling fan inside the housing as that seems to be what everybodies problem has been as to why it wouldn't switch speeds. Haven't ran across that myself, but should work and does from what they all have been saying.

There are some solid plus's with this ceiling fan as well. The rubber wall mount that comes with the fan is a savior in making the fan "wiggle" free. You won't see this fan appearing to wobble at any speed you choose to run it on. Plus it is whisper quiet. If you do hear some noise it's probably because some of the internal wires are rubbing on the motor. Check it before you finish the installation by turning it all on at all of the different speeds. If you still hear a noise, adjust the wiring inside and try it again. You shouldn't hear much of anything on this model.

Now down to the aesthetics. The Hampton Bay Hawkins comes with 5 reversible blades, one side has kind of a distressed look while the other is more of a natural oak. So you can choose which side you'd like and simply install the blades that way. Want a more antiquey look, go with the distressed. Plus it comes with a very visual appealing half bowl light fixture, a Venetian Scavo glass, fancy name for smoked glass if you ask me that gets a little darker at the edges that takes 3x40 watt chandelier type bulbs. There has been quite a few complaints about the lighting on this model but I kinda believe that they've got to be taken with a grain of salt so to speak. Probably the room was to large or ceiling to high, get the fan for what it was designed for, smaller rooms with low ceilings and you probably won't have the lighting issue to deal with. I mean your only using 3x40 watt candelabra type bulbs here so the rooms shouldn't be that big where you are needing light. Oh, and you'll need to buy these lights extra to as they do not come with the fan itself. So if you want light, get some bulbs, and remember all bulbs are not created equal.

Overall this is a great little Hampton Bay fan. If you have the right sized room with low ceilings and want something that's going to look a little bit classy but not too much, maybe something for a guest room or older kids room, this would be a good fan to do the job.

Is there such a thing as a ceiling fan with heat? Absolutely. It's already a well known fact that utilizing a ceiling fan at the proper settings could be a tremendous blessing during those hot summer months in saving you some significant money on your electric bills. In fact if you use it right, you could save from an estimated 20%-40% on your cooling costs simply by adjusting your air conditioning up a couple of degrees and running your ceiling fans. This will push the hot air down from the ceilings where it tends to cummulate and circulate it with the cooling air thus cooling the overall temperature of the home providing better overall efficiency and could significantly lower your electric bills.

But what about during those cold winter months. Can't you just turn the fan on in reverse and push all that heat around to dispense it better throughout the home? Well, actually yes you can, but manufacturers have actually started producing heated ceiling fans that will not only redirect the heated air back down to the floor like a normal ceiling fan but it also contains a heating mechanism that reheats the air to give you some added energy efficiency on those heating bills during the winter.

There's nothing really special involved when you go to install a heated ceiling fan such that there's really nothing different installation wise from these to a regular ceiling fan. If there is already a light fixture installed it can definitely take the place of that. However, if there is no prior light fixture or ceiling fan already installed where you are planning to put this one, you'll run into your typical wiring installation woes that you would any other job. Most people aren't much for electrical or wiring type work as they tend to not like that little charge of electricity coarsing thru their veins if they make a mistake, or blowing out an entire electric panel/grid if they get it wrong, just kidding, but could happen. If this is you, stick to letting a good contractor or installation expert take care of that part for you. But if the wirings already run to a light fixture or ceiling fan in place, go for it, it's really not much different than installing a regular ceiling fan.

The main difference between these and regular fans is the heated ceiling fan has a built-in heating element. The big plus is that since heat typically rises you can continue to run the heated fan normally and simply turn on the heating element which will reheat the air while the fan redirects the warm air flow back towards the ground where you are and not towards the ceiling. Plus, you can turn the heating element on or off whenever you feel the need to use it.

With the housing market as it is even today, more and more homes are being built and not by the typical standards of yester-year. Homes with odd-shaped rooms and high-pitched roofs and ceilings and still more of the double-decker two-story homes are being built more and more every day. What's not being factored into the equation is that homes of this nature typically have a harder time with maintaining a desired temperature whether it's hot or cold due to their unique facets. What they find out is that it's sometimes hard to cool and heat. Even people who live in high ceiling houses find it takes much more than average to heat their house as the heat takes the natural course and escapes to the pitches in the high ceilings or simply escapes through other natural means like windows or vents or sliding glass doors. It doesn't even really matter if you have one of those good name-brand centralized heating and air conditioning systems, you'll still find that it's hard to get it properly circulated due to the inert properties of heat that makes it rise over cooler air. Try it for yourself, if you have high ceilings, put up a couple of temperature gauges and run the system for yourself. What you are going to find is higher temperatures towards the ceiling and lower temperatures at the floor. Get a couple of those stick on temperature guages and put one at the high-point of your ceiling and one at the floor level, you could even put one mid-way on the wall, and then you'll see for yourself just how good your system is working or not working.

Hampton Bay Brennero Flemish Pewter Heated Ceiling Fan

Just because your ceiling is warm doesn't mean that you will be. You don't live on the ceiling do you? In fact, since heat rises, the last part of the room or house to get any heat to it all is the lower half of the home. You see, heat rises, warms the top and then as it can only reach a certain temperature it just slowly builds downward. But if you have a ceiling fan with heat you could correct this inadequacy as the ceiling fan would not only reheat the air but force it downward by pushing it towards the floor. That means that it will actually heat your home more efficiently as its forcing the heat down to where the cold air remained and making your heating system work less.

Not only that, but if the house is a two-story dwelling, a ceiling fan with heat could work wonders for you there as well. How many times do you hear that the bottom floor is freezing but you could just about roast a turkey in the upper level. Probably more often than not. You see, the problem is that the thermostat will typically read the temperature in the lower levels of your home. Even though the upstairs may be cooking, the down stairs is still cool to the touch. Brings us right back to the old heat rises theory once again. You could easily do yourself a favor here and install a couple of the ceiling fans with heat in some of the main rooms downstairs to not only pull that heat downward but reheat it as well. This will undoubtedly make everyone happy no matter what level they live on. Not only that, but again you'd be saving on your electric bill as these fans will pull much less watts than a heating system and just a slight bit more than a regular ceiling fan.

Hampton Bay Brennero Ancient Bronze Heated Ceiling Fan

Comparing a heated ceiling fan to a regular ceiling fan, you won't really be able to tell much of a difference. They will all pretty much be visually appealing and nothing out of the ordinary will be protruding from the sides or anything like that. They look just like a regular sized 52 inch or 54 inch model. The only real difference is that so the heating element could be accommodated around the housing area, the heated ceiling fan may have a bit more in length.

Probably the best known model on the market today is the Reiker Room Conditioner. This heated ceiling fan is actually sold under the Hampton Bay ceiling fans name at Home Depot stores. You'll find it there as the Hampton Bay Brennero ceiling fans. They usually retail for around $350 from Home Depot. You can also pick up the Reiker model from most Lowes stores as well but they may be special order only so be sure to talk to a sales associate if you do happen by there. This fan works extremely well and does have a limited lifetime warranty so get the one that goes best with your decor and you'd probably be more than satisfied.

The Harbor Breeze Solstice is one unique looking ceiling fan sporting some old world charm and appeal. From it's very distinctive bronzed-rustic finish to the 5 ceiling fan blades that look like wooden palm leaves (very nice touch in my opinion) that also have a rustic look, you could definitely classify this one as a rustic ceiling fan. This fan could bring that missing piece to any room that has a darker more classy look and feel.

52" Harbor Breeze Solstice Ceiling Fan

Let's talk about a little detail of the fan itself. Starting from an overall look, the fan displays a deep and rich rustic tone. At the top, you'll be able to mount it with a standard downrod mount that will allow for an extension if you want the fan to drop lower than the included downrod for those of you with high ceilings or open spaces. The housing to me on this fan is one of a kind. Almost in a semi tulip bulb shape I guess with broad vertical striping detail, really lends a touch of class to this fan. Then throw in the etched to perfection details of the blades that really do look like some sort of palms which makes you atleast think of nothing but gentles breezes, you'll actually be able to feel the breeze. The blades are a little wider than most typical ceiling fan blades are in much more of an oval shape than the typical polygonal or rectangle shaped blades. The light housing is fairly unique to this fan. With a semi-globed effect attached to the bronze drop light casing, it really adds to this uniquely designed ceiling fan.

Let's get down to the nuts and bolts on this particular fan. First let's start with what it is not. This is not an Energy Star qualified ceiling fan. The Harbor Breeze Solstice is not an outdoor ceiling fan. This particular fan does not have a CSA Safety listing or an ETL safety listing but does have a UL safety listing. You can find more on safety listings and what they mean here.

What the Harbor Breeze Solstice is though is definitely one of those indoor ceiling fans that would bring some elegance to the right type of room. It's a 52-inch ceiling fan with a three speed reversible motor supporting some reverse air flow, so it would be good for all seasons. It has 5 blades and an excellent rustic bronze finish. And not only that it comes with a remote control and light kit included (with a 40 watt maximum bulb wattage.

I've only seen this fan installed in a couple of locations, one was a restraurant that had them lined up down the ceiling covering the whole dining area, looked really great. If you have one of these ceiling fans installed in your home I'd be really interested on your opinions of it as well, so feel free to drop me a line below and let me know what you think of your Solstice. You can find more information on Harbor Breeze ceiling fans all through out our site. This fan typically for about $239.00 from Lowes.

Whether you knew this or not, Harbor Breeze ceiling fans are made especially for Lowes stores around the nation. Yes, they are absolutely the main store selection from each and every Lowes stores. These fans are actually made by Litex. Like most of these Home Improvement stores they don't actually make the fans, they are made by another manufacturer, but they are made specifically to be that stores brand. Litex actually makes quite a few different brands that are readily available on the market today at other Home Centers across our country. But we'll save those for the appropriate places to insert into the site but it's quite probable that you've already seen a Litex manufactured ceiling fan and just didn't realize it cause it's been branded by someone else.

Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fans 52-inch Tilghman Bronze

Like most big home improvement giants, Lowes offers many Harbor Breeze fans in superb combinations of colors, finishes, styles and price range. In fact, the Harbor Breeze line at Lowe's can range from the simplistic Harbor Breeze 42" Armitage White Ceiling Fan which retails for $19.94 all the way to the elegant Harbor Breeze 52" Cambridge Bronze Ceiling Fan with a 3 speed reversible motor and Tiffany lighted housing, 5 reversible cherry and mendel teak blades and a remote control included retailing for $299.00. You can expect everything in finishes to from Brass to Bronze, Chrome to Copper, Iron to Nickel, and even Pewter. With this knowledge you can bet that you could pick up a ceiling fan that not only fits your budget but your style and decor as well.

Like most ceiling fan manufacturers, Harbor Breeze ceiling fans come in a variety of sizes. You'd be sure to find the appropriate sized ceiling fan for any room in your home. From those small utility rooms to the large family rooms, they have fans ranging from 30" Breezeway Ceiling Fan that's petite enough for just about any small room all the way to the bohemoth 56" Titanium Ceiling Fan that gives the ominous appearance of one of those giant wind-turbine generators. The majority of there fans fall in the 52"-category which is also pretty much the typical standard size that anyone looks for. Most all of them have a light kit included (97) but there are a few that don't so be careful if you are looking for one that does to select the right model. They do sport 12 models that come with remote controls.

For all you patio lovers out there, Harbor Breeze fans also come in a variety of outdoor usage ratings. Of course the majority of their ceiling fans are for indoor use only and will likely not hold up as an outside ceiling fan if you try and use one those models for this purpose, but that's one of those occasions where you can't blame the fan but the homeowner for the choice. They do however boast 18 ceiling fans that are rated for either damp or wet usage (evenly split at 9 a piece).

The "wet" models sport 2 contemporary designed fans being the Harbor Breeze 52" Black Teak Ceiling Fan that retails for $179.00 and the 52" Bronze Pacific Grove Ceiling Fan which weighs in at $169.00. I'm more partial to the later as I just think it's cooler looking and plus, call me thrifty, but it's $10.00 cheaper. The other seven models are all Harbor Breeze Calera ceiling fans and look just like your regular old run of the mill fans, some with lights, some without, some black, some white, ranging from $70-$100.

Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fans 52-inch Solstice Rustic Bronze

The "damp" models are where all the fun comes in, but be realistic, if it says "damp" don't be putting it in a "wet" area, there is a difference and will help prolong the life of your ceiling fan. Now onto the fun. I would classify these fans as all being contemporary as they have a style and design all there own. They are a bit more pricey than the "wet" models going all the way up to $239 for the Harbor Breeze 52" Solstice Rustic Bronze Ceiling Fan down to the 52" Tilghman Bronze Ceiling Fan for $99 (still quite nice though if you ask me). The one that really stands out in my opinion is the Harbor Breeze 52" Brass Paradiso ($199). If you are going for that upper scale but still tropically relaxing environment for that perfect patio this would be the ceiling fan for you. With a 5 speed reversible motor, weather proof ABS blades that look like they've just been plucked from the palm tree, an included 4-drop light kit and hangdown mount, you won't be able to do anything but relax underneath it's gentle breeze.
